Short Adult Stature
(from a discussion on the DSTNI Yahoo group)

Dr. Leichtman, Why do males with DS achieve most of their height by 13-14 when typical males grow for much longer?

A: Earlier onset of puberty. Once puberty starts, there is only 2 more years of growth.  Puberty starts earlier due to irregularities in sertoli cells that end up producing more testosterone.  Could be blocked with Lupron but too many side effects to make this safe just to get taller.  Girls also seem to go into puberty earlier.  Growth hormone does not impact that.
