Fundraisers

It takes nearly $100,000 a year to support Sunset High School music programs.
SAMBA has the following fundraisers underway. Please join in and support music in our school!

Sunset Classic: October 26th, 2013, 25th Anniversary
Launched in 1989, the Sunset Classic is SAMBA's largest and primary fundraiser of the year. The Classic supports all band programs at Sunset High School; including marching band, colorguard, jazz band, funk band, winter percussion, and winterguard. This full day marching band competition requires the support of every band family to make this show a great success. Planning for this event begins in the winter of the previous season.
Committee Chair; Lyn Combs

Spring Auction: May 21st, 2014
Each Spring, SAMBA holds a spring awards concert and silent auction. This is SAMBA's second-largest fundraiser of the year and features all of Sunset's symphonic and jazz bands. The volunteer committee and SAMBA members reach out to the Sunset community to donate items for auction. Many terrific packages are available for bid; including beach getaways, golf packages, and much more.
Committee Chair; Ashley Jetton

Fireworks Stand: June-July 4th
This fundraiser was started by now alumni parents Steve and Linda Hoffmaster. It's a fun event for parents and students to participate in and a great way for incoming freshman families to meet the SAMBA Community. SAMBA sets up the stand in the Bale's Thriftway parking lot. Thank you Bale's!
Committee Chair; Open

Poinsettia Sale: October 21st kick off
This was a very successful fundraiser for SAMBA in the past and we're bringing it back! We will be offering red, 6 1/2 inch poinsettias. Information and order forms will go home with students on October 21st. Only three weeks to sell and a limited quantity available, so get your order in soon! Delivery is scheduled for December 3rd to the SHS band room.
Committee Chair; Ashley Jetton

Mattress Sale: New this year!
This was an exciting new event held at SHS and hosted by SAMBA. The SHS commons area was turned into a mattress showroom with mattress made by the local company Oregon Mattress. All sizes and styles were offered. Students had fun waving signs on Cornell to advertise the event. Funds raised from this event helped defer cost of the bands travel trip.
Committee Chair; Kim Jackson

Zumbathon: Saturday, October 19th, 12:00-1:00pm
The event will be held at SHS in the main gym. This will be the second Zumbathon that the SAMBA Colorguard has hosted. Last years event had over 100 participants with a great workout and a lot of fun had by all! There will also be fun zumba gear available for sale. Funds raised will go toward the terrific new uniforms that the colorguard is wearing this season.
Committee Chair; Samantha Crilly

Parades and Community Events: throughout the year
SAMBA members participate in parades and other local events throughout the year as volunteers. Our next opportunity will be the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade where 29 of our parents and students will be wearing costumes in the parade. Other events that you will see SAMBA working; Shamrock Run, Starlight Run, and Providence Bridge Pedal. Each volunteer earns $20-$25 for SAMBA.
Committee Chair; Paul Imai and Ashley Jetton

Other Fundraisers:
SAMBA members participate and offer many other fundraisers throughout the year. You may see SAMBA Pops, bake sales, One for the Band, and our very talented Jazz Band performing in the community.
