Common Ridings  and Festivals

The Border country's Common Riding traditions have evolved over 900 years into one of Europe's oldest and biggest equestrian spectacles. 'The Riding of the Marches' festivals pay homage to the region’s tumultuous past and celebrate its unique identity.




Apart from the 'Common Ridings' the area is a mecca for other equestrian events:

The Borders Book Festival, held in Melrose every June, is a definite must!

The Borders Theatre scene.

Bowhill Theatre - unique! An experience for the ambience and size of the theatre, which was converted from the old Victorian Game Larder! 

The Maltings Theatre & Arts Centre, Berwick-upon-Tweed 

The Heart of Hawick Events - one of the biggest regeneration projects in the Scottish Borders. 

Peebles Theatre and Arts Centre. - Eastgate has become a well-loved part of the Peebles landscape, and a lively hub for arts activities in the Scottish Borders.
