Food

Paddlers are expected to continuously refuel throughout the day. Food is available for purchase at many race sites, but quality and availability is not guaranteed. Paddlers should avoid foods high in grease or sugar during races. Fruits, vegetables, light carbohydrates, and proteins are recommended.

Water
Paddlers should always bring more water than they think they will need to races. Many become very hot, and dehydration negatively affects paddling performance.

Away Races
Paddlers are responsible for providing their own food at all away races.

Portland Races
A communal food table is usually set up for both the Portland Dragon Boat Race in September and the Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race. A food list will be sent out a few weeks prior to the race, and every paddler will be required to contribute an item to the table. The club will supply paper plates, napkins, and plastic silverware in these cases, but coolers and tables are needed beyond what the club has access to. Paddlers should still bring food of their own to these races.
