Romans
    2:1-4

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

2:37
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

:38 Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you
in the Name of Jesus Christ
                   for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children,
and to all that are afar off,

even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort,
      saying, Save yourselves
                          from this untoward generation.

:41 Then they that gladly received his word
      were
baptized: and the same day there
were added unto them about three thousand souls.

:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Luke 1:57-66  When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.

On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, "No! He is to be called John."

They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who has that name."

Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child. He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John." Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue was loosed, and he began to speak, praising God. The neighbors were all filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things. Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, "What then is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.

LISTENING NOTES:
(over piano by Patrice Rosenau,
the preceding verses are read aloud...)

'When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the others, 'Brothers, what shall we do?'"

Heard what?!  When they heard Peter's sermon up to that point. God had made this Jesus whom they had crucified both Lord and Christ.

'When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,

     'Brothers, what shall we do?'"

Peter replied, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you
in the Name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins,

and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "

. . . this Promise is for you and for your children.

It is appropriate that this message coincides with our Sending of Ben Rosenau. He is a child of Promise. Two teenagers, a youth choir led by a younger Curt, a younger Wolf, a younger DeLynn.

That's the way 'stuff starts'. It is good when it starts but it is kind of 'dangerous'. Boys & Girls & hormones in the same youth group. Praise the Lord they got married, and started bringing forth children. Its a process. The children are still being raised. The story is not finished. There are still chapters ahead.

For people listening two years from now on the Internet, that it is important to note the families in your local church. It is important to me as a pastor that our young people hear this message today.

There is a Devil, a Thief who wants to steal the godly pattern of Marriage: Raising Godly Offspring.

Luke ch. 1: 57 Elizabeth and her child of Promise.
She gave birth to a son.

I got to hold a newborn baby on Thursday:
Joshua Lee Cameron--the fifth baby we will be watching
                                     during this Sermon Series.
   The fifth set of parents.

What is the Big Difference between
             THAT DAY (Pentecost) and TODAY?

3,000 saved?  The Word. The Spirit.

Growing...newborns over two weeks?
               newborns one year from now?

               the church?

Elizabeth had been 'expecting' for nine months.
The naming of the child. Zechariah asks for a writing table. He had been struck mute nine months earlier. Certain events in our lives serve as markers for us--marking memories.

The Christian Walk:

1. You've just come through something.

2. You're going through something.

3. You're just about to go through something.

In all three cases, you need the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Thinking about this year's high school graduates.
            Jesus or the Thief . . .
Proclaim Life. This is a pro-Life Message.

Zechariah confirms Elizabeth's conviction.
When asked about the name of the baby, he scribbles out:

    "His name is John."

The fulfillment of that which has been spoken to us. It is important to keep our memory intact. What did God say nine months ago?

This is the way the Holy Spirit works, Phyllis. God brings us to this place to CONFIRM His word to us.

"God is God and He is still on the Throne."

Jesus has come that I may have LIFE and the Thief will not steal from me . . . or my household!

I'm gonna put up a 'NO TRESPASSING' sign on my morality . . .
a 'NO TRESPASSING' sign on my integrity . . .
a 'NO TRESPASSING' sign on my faith . . .

"Thief, you're not allowed here! You're not wanted.

Zechariah's tongue is loosed...and he begins to PRAISE GOD!
       (the alternative to praise: cursing?)

I want us to be a SPEAKING church.

Peter spoke. Zechariah spoke.
People ask questions: "What is this child going to be?"

Five little babies will go through this Series with us. Shaping of the Child?  But on the list of Sins is 'Disobedience to Parents'.
      (the SINS-LIST on the Cross)

1. SPEAKING...Speaking God's Word

2. HEARING...Hearing God's Word. When we truly hear God's Word, with the ears He has provided, we too, should be cut to the heart.

(at this point the tape has lost several minutes but I recorded some of the points that are missing). I'll listen and make more notes later... --pastorob
