The New Library Is Here!
More than 1200 persons attended the Family Opening of the new Sun City Library on January 23, 2010, and
another large crowd was present for the formal dedication and ribbon cutting on February 2. Records were
set for issuance of new library cards and circulation during the first month of operation, and daily patronage
continues high. All categories of usage during the first year surpassed any previous year. The new facility replaced, on the same site, a library located since 1995 in a former bank building. Previous library services were provided in storefront locations in the Sun City Shopping Center.
The construction contract in the amount of $3,222,000 was awarded to R.C. Construction Services in December, 2008, demolition began the following January, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held February 6, 2009.
The new library has almost 11,000 square feet, an increase of 4,000 square feet, and features state-of-the -art equipment and the latest environmentally sound technology. In addition to a larger children's area, more shelving for books, and more computers, there is a larger community room and area for Friends of the Library book sales.
The new facility faces south, with entry and parking off Cherry Hills Boulevard.
The library is the primary one serving the city of Menifee, which has a population of more than 81,000.
