Herbal Medicine at Summit Acupuncture

Documented as early as the 12th century Ming dynasty, Chinese herbal medicine dates back thousands of years, and continues to be used safely and effectively for a variety of ailments including:
  • Digestive disorders
  • Pain management
  • Menstrual disorders, male and female infertility, and menopause
  • Injury recovery
  • Allergies
  • Addictions
  • Insomnia
In the state of Ohio acupuncturists with training in Chinese herbal medicine are licensed as practitioners of Oriental Medicine as well as licensed acupuncturists. Chinese herbal medicine may be used in conjunction with acupuncture treatment, and may also encompass dietary therapy based on principles of Chinese medicine as well as appropriate lifestyle modifications. According to www.cancer.org, a site sponsored by the American Cancer Institute, “There is some evidence from randomized clinical trials that some Chinese herbs may contribute to longer survival rates, reduction of side effects, and lower risk of recurrence for some types of cancer, especially when combined with conventional treatment”.

Chinese herbal therapy is customized to each patient. Herbs are usually taken as formulas of herbs rather than a single herbal product. Herbs may be taken internally as teas, pills, tinctures, or granules. They may also be used topically for certain conditions.
