Allergies

Decrease Reactions and Minimize Symptoms

According to Western medicine, allergies are caused by hypersensitivity to certain substances that sets off an antigen-antibody reaction which causes inflammation. This reaction results in symptoms of itchy watery eyes, nasal congestion, headaches, sneezing, and scratchy throats.

In Chinese medicine, allergies are viewed as an invasion of the body by wind, cold, damp and/or heat. This invasion occurs when an individual’s qi is deficient and unable to protect the body from these outside influences. This scenario can be likened to a weak immune system allowing an invasion by germs.

To treat allergies through acupuncture, needles are inserted into specific points to disperse wind, warm cold, dispel heat, and/or drain dampness. When these factors are dispelled from the body a patient’s system is strengthened and allergy symptoms begin to decline.
