    A RESEARCH-BASED WRITING INTERVENTION

    SummerTIME is a writing program developed exclusively as a four week intervention for high-achieving first generation students during the summer transition from high school to college (Strayhorn, 2011). 

    IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WR(EV)ITE 

    SummerTIME's curriculum goal is specific and strategic to support deeper learning (Herman & Linn, 2013). The curriculum follows a project-based model of instruction, and eschews drill-and-skill remediation tactics. We teach students how to revise their writing: Revise revise, revise!!

    If students learn one thing and one thing only in SummerTIME, it should be the idea that college writing requires multiple drafts. “It’s all about the wr(ev)ite,” is shorthand for the curriculum mantra: write + revise = wr(ev)ite. Our goal is to convey a clear and consistent message to students that will carry over after instruction. The curriculum is streamlined to protect this message.
