Aim and Objective                                                                                                     

The aim of the Summer School is to provide an immersive experience of the HSE&Q fundamental topics through examples of their professional application to the development and implementation of the management systems that stand as a strategic framework to get the stringent requirements given to the Oil and Gas industrial strategic sector as far as Health, Safety, Environment and Quality are concerned. The objective of the HSE&Q Summer School in Pisa is to qualify experts in design, development and management of complex Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Systems for the Oil and Gas Sector.


The Summer School is preferentially oriented to Industrial Engineering-skilled participants (Industrial Engineering students as well as postgraduate and PhD students from all EU and non EU countries; the Summer School is also open to post-doctoral researchers and senior researchers from Universities and research institutes). A maximum of 20 participants will be selected on the basis of their CV.

Teaching methodology                                                                                                

The teaching method will be strongly oriented to cooperation and interaction with teachers and will include contribution from academic research, professional research, expert from O&G companies and main international technical and scientific consultants, published case studies and real cases application from Oil & Gas companies experiences. Daily intensive lecturing (12 days, 8 hours/day, monday to friday). Lectures are organized in six modules, each covering a specific topic. Each lecture consists of 8 hour of lessons and exercises held in class. As a whole, the school is characterized by an operative industrial-oriented approach with specific sessions of the lectures dedicated to the presentation of industrial case studies in which the participants will be interactively involved.

Course Programme                                                                                                      

The HSE&Q Summer school will start on the 21st July 2014 and finish on the 6th August 2014 following the agenda below.


Credits will be acknowledged by the University of Pisa according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), after attendance of the overall Course and submission of a small Thesis (Project Work). Partial attendance to the Course, previously scheduled, will give right to a number of credits proportionally reduced. In any case each participant will receive an Attendance Certificate that certify the total amount of hours followed in the Summer School.
In order to be acknowledged of 6 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) from the University of Pisa, the students must positively pass the final test examination and receive a positive evaluation of the project work. Incoming Erasmus students may choose the Summer School as educational activity of their plan.


All the courses, group work and exercises will be in English.

The completed and hand-signed application form application form should be sent to hseq2014unipi@gmail.com together with a CV , ID Document and letter of motivation.
  • Application should be submitted prior to May 30th (deadline postponed). 
  • Confirmations of acceptance will be made prior to June 5th.
  • Payment will be possible after acceptance notification
  • The enrolling procedure and needed documents will be transmitted to the participant by e-mail.
  • Selected students have to pay the fees in full before June 10th 2014.

Fees and Admission                                                                                                      

The fees of 400,00 euros are the same for Italian, EU and international students. Fees do not include living expenses and accommodation.
A minimum of 10 participants are requested to activate the summer school and a maximum of 20 participants will be selected on the basis of both academic achievement (average score in the exams, graduation score for post graduated applicants) and suitability for the programme, as indicated in personal statement and CV. In case of ex aequo, priority will be offered at foreign and younger students.


The administrative procedure to enrolment will be followed by the Quinn organization.
