Biography

Dr. Sukanta Roy (SFHEA) is presently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Dean (Students' Welfare), National Institute of Technology Mizoram, India, and also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Curtin University Malaysia. Prior to this position, Dr. Roy was working at Curtin University, Malaysia campus from September 2017 to December 2022, as an Associate Professor (Jan 2022 - Dec 2022), Senior Lecturer (Dec 2019 - Dec 2021), and Lecturer (Sep 2017 - Nov 2019) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He was previously appointed as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University Malaysia from March 2019 to December 2022, for leading the department in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies in all areas of the departmental operations, as well as providing strong and committed academic leadership, monitoring, and evaluating the department’s teaching, research, professional and community engagement activities.  He is an award winner of Curtin Australia Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2019 and Curtin Malaysia Learning and Teaching Excellence Award 2020 and Curtin Students' Choice Award 2022. Dr. Roy has been awarded Senior Fellow of Advance HE, UK in 2021 and Fellow of Advance HE in 2019. He was also the Chairperson of the Staff Consultative Committee and Industry Advisory Panel for the Mechanical Engineering department at the Malaysia campus from Mar 2019 - Dec 2022. Prior to joining Curtin University, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in IRPHE, Aix Marseille University, France from November 2015 to June 2017. He has also worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in LHEEA, Ecole Centrale de Nantes, France from September 2014 to October 2015 through Erasmus Mundus Post-Doctoral Fellowship (Asia to Europe) from European Commission. Dr. Roy has completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He is an authorized peer reviewer of Curtin Peer Review Educational Practices and a registered HDR supervisor at Curtin University for Doctoral and Master Thesis supervision. His research interests include Experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics, Wind Turbine Aerodynamics and Hydro-kinetic Turbines,  Solar Energy, Bio/Hydrogen Energy, Green Energy Technologies, Optimization in Energy and Heat Transfer Applications, and Learning and Teaching Pedagogies in Higher Education etc.
