greywater recyling in the greenhouse

Water from our sinks, bath tub, dishwasher, and washing machine all drain into this planter.  The shower drains into the outdoor permaculture garden.

In 2005 our planter was newly planted and barely green.  Just three years later, the ficus we purchased at WalMart is almost touching the 15' ceilings.  For scale reference, the man in the picture is six feet tall.

Building a greywater planter can be done with any new construction home; its not just for earthships.  Depending on how your house is plumbed, you can retrofit a home for greywater recycling.  For example, houses with crawl spaces where the plumbing is accessible are excellent candidates for greywater recycling retrofits.
