I've always believed that there is more to being healthy than just exercising. I've had periods of consistent exercise when I still didn't get into shape. Of course, diet, in addition to exercise works. The problem is that most diets are too restrictive to be continued long-term. At the same time, there's more involved than that. Stress can make you overeat or stop exercising. Lack of sleep can make you too tired to exercise. Dehydration can make you feel too tired to exercise, also.
I have believed for many years that five elements are necessary for health and fitness. Along with eating nutritiously and being active, you need to drink plenty of fluids, sleep enough, and have ways to relieve stress everyday. In December 2006, while working with a Personal Training client, I wanted to help her remember these five elements, so I played around with the initials of the words (and different words) and came up with The SWEET Life, which also means being happy, fulfilled, successful, and in control.
