I am looking for motivated and ambitious students to join our PhD program in my group. Prospective students should have the following background:
MTech/ME/MS in Computer Science & Engineering / Information Technology / Electronics / Mathematics and Computing
Strong programming skills
Coursework/understanding of Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning
Solid background in maths, probability and statistics
Publications and/or experience in NLP/Data Science
* Candidates having NET JRF (or any other fellowship) or with significant experience/knowledge in NLP/Data Science will be preferred.
* Prospective areas of research: LegalNLP, BioNLP, Computational Psychology, Computational Social Science, Computational Humanities, other new and emerging tasks and areas in Speech Processing and NLP.

Rohini Basak (Jadavpur University), Thesis title: A Study on Recognizing Textual Entailment using Different Approaches. Dr. Basak is currently an Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India.
Somnath Banerjee (Jadavpur University), Thesis title: Code-Mixed Cross-Script Question Answering. Co-supervisor: Prof. Sivaji Bandyopadhyay (Jadavpur University, India) and Prof. Paolo Rosso (Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain). Degree awarded in December, 2020. Dr. Banerjee is currently an Assistant Professor at Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu, Estonia.

Santanu Pal (Universität des Saarlandes), Thesis title: A Hybrid Machine Translation Framework for an Improved Translation Workflow. Jointly supervised by Prof. Josef van Genabith (DFKI and Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken, Germany). Degree awarded in December, 2017. Dr. Pal is currently a Lead Scientist at Wipro AI Lab. He recently moved to London to set up and build their new Wipro AI team in London, UK.
