This dictionary began as an attempt to provide brief background information on the technical terms that are more commonly used in Herrick's  Brain of the Tiger Salamander .  I've subsequently added terms which Herrick doesn't use but which are important parts of the subcortical brain.

This background information is available both as hard copy and online.

Hard Copy Background Information

As explained in  Historical Background & Free Book , I'm giving away used copies of:

An Introduction to Brain and Behavior" by Bryan Kolb & Ian G. Whishaw, FIRST edition     ISBN: 0-7167-5169-0

If you would like a copy, send me a postal address, and I'll send you the book.   Now that a second edition has come out, the first edition is available via the internet for almost nothing, and I have several here at home.

In the Dictionary entries, below, I will cite references to Kolb and Whishaw's book as [K&W: page number].

Online Background Information

The online background information is initially from Wikipedia with further information collected in Human Neuroanatomy.   When the Wikipedia entry is extensive, I'll stop there, but if you want to know more or would like to see more diagrams or pictures, there's a lot more collected in  Human Neuroanatomy.

The Dictionary:

Each entry provides the hard copy information first, followed by the online information.  You'll probably need the book for the hard copy references to be of much use to you.
