Misson

FIRST, TO PRESERVE EXAMPLES OF ARCHITECTURE TYPICAL OF THE LATE 1800’S AND THE FIRST HALF OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY PROVIDE FACILITIES APPROPRIATE TO DISPLAY ARTIFACTS AND MEMORABILIA THAT ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE LIFE STYLE DURING THIS HISTORICAL PERIOD.  THESE MEMORABILIA SHOULD INCLUDE EXAMPLES OF HOME LIFE, BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, FARMING AND RANCHING.

SECOND, THE FACILITIES SHOULD INVITE RECOGNITION AND RESPECT FOR THE EARLIER CITIZENS WHOSE PAST GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS OF ENERGY, RESOURCES AND THEIR FORESIGHT PROVIDES THE FOUNDATION FOR THE CIVIC SPIRIT THAT IS EVIDENT IN ATKINSON TODAY.

THIRD, AND PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT, TO PROVIDE AN INSTITUTION THAT MAY NOT ONLY ADD TO THE RICHNESS OF LIFE THROUGH ENHANCING AN/OR AWAKENING RESPECT FOR OUR HISTORY, BUT ALSO RECOGNIZES THE EXCITING POTENTIALS FOR LIFE IN A NEW CENTURY.  THE MUSEUM MAY SERVE AS A GENTLE REMINDER TO ALL CITIZENS, YOUNG AND OLD, THAT TODAY’S HEADLINES ARE TOMORROW’S HISTORY.
