CSNO's Art Relief: The Creative Road to Recovery
March 14, 2009 6-10 PM.
Past Contributing Artists:
Art Relief 2009 is set for March 14th!
submission date March 7th.
- What is Art Relief?
Art Relief 2009 is a silent art auction, hosted by San Diego State's College Students for New Orleans. All profits will go towards transportation and housing for students from SDSU to volunteer in the greater New Orleans area (rebuilding houses, working in food banks, etc.)
- When is the Event?
The event will be held on March 14, 2009, at El Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park.
All food, drinks, and artwork are donated, so we are looking for artists who are interested in donating a piece to be auctioned at the event. We like to stick to a New Orleans/re-building/jazz theme, but all works and all media will be accepted! Pieces need to be turned in to Maia Neubig by March 7, and anyone who is interested can get in contact with me at this email (Maianew@gmail.com). This is also a GREAT opportunity for students to get exposure and have people see their work.
Art Relief means using art as a means to express your feelings, emotions and other life changes or stresses in a healthy way. Needless to say, Katrina survivors have gone through a great deal of pain, sorrow and stress and this is our way of not only fundraising to rebuild New Orleans but to express what the survivors cannot and to relieve them of their pain. CSNO members hope that with Art Relief, more Americans will become aware of the ongoing damages the citizens of New Orleans and other affected citizens are facing. Art Relief and our New Orleans rebuilding efforts is about the realization that the world is bigger than you and encouraging others to have compassion.
With the amazing and growing list of contributing artists, we hope to make New Orleanians and those affected by Hurricane Katrina proud.
