Last week, a number of SC@M members and other University of Melbourne students attended the AICCM National Conference in Canberra. Hearing about issues and research currently being tackled in conservation and meeting conservators from all over the world, some students also managed to make time to see the Queen on her trip to the Australian Capital. Special mention also to Jenny O'Connell, a University of Melbourne conservation student who received one of the two Student Conservator of the Year awards that were presented at the Conference Dinner.

You can now find us on AICCM wedsite at about 'conservation> becoming a conservator> info for new students'!

We had just had our first meeting, and it ran really well. However, hopefully by next meeting most of our administration tasks will be over!
Lisa has just created our new facebook page, be sure to join up!
Most of the committe will be going to Canberra for the National Conference (don't know whether it is a blessing yet coz it falls right before assignment hell). But we ere going to take advantage of this event to get in touch with Canberra sister champ! maybe drinks and socialise with the student body in Canberra and sus out competition (just kidding lol). It is so exciting to possibly meet them and get to know their learning experiences as well! We are hoping to form a continual relationship with Canberra Student body...long term goal
Also Sophie has asked if SC@M can preduce a poster for the conference, we are going to! this will be a great opportunity to get SC@M out there into the professional world:)
So poster making time for us hahahaha
This year we are hoping to be very active and engage in student, staff and other prefessional bodies in conversations and relationships that will enhance our time in this course, and also not forgetting to enjoy life as we go about completing our 250 assignments (just kidding).
As we can all see, Steph (our Treasurer/IT consultant/ alround multi-talented super women) has renovated the site completely and I have also put together our new logo. We are hoping through the refreshment of the site and a renewed representation of us that we can start a new chapter of SC@M that continues and build on our previous seniors' wonderful work of connecting students with many facets of conservation.
I will make sure everything is communicated well and shall have some events soon (particularly PD workshops)!
