Here you can find details about upcoming events run by SC@M as well as events or functions run by other organisations that might be of interest to SC@M members.
This year's AGM and hand over to the new SC@M committee will be held at the Gorman Room (102) of the Graduate Student Association on Thursday 24th of May at 5.30. Members of the current committee will be present to wrap up our year and explain to interested first years what the different positions entail and answer any questions about them and SC@M. We would like to invite all CCMC students and lecturers interested in attending to join us for the meeting and pizza which will be provided by SC@M.
Looking forward to seeing you all for the current committee's final meeting and event,
We are finally kick starting events for 2012!!! Line up includes (dates are not set in stone yet):
29th May - Publishing and Private Practice
This is a talk presented by Associate Professor Robyn Sloggett. First part will be on the ins and outs of publication: How to publish? Why we publish? and the academic environment of publishing and how it is maintained in institutes by conservators?
The second part of the talk will be on private practice and how to set up a business: the logistics and ways to go about it.
5th June - State Library of Victoria
This is an invaluable visit to one of Victoria's large collection institutes. The trip will focus on the role of conservators and the management of such large collection. Topics include: collection management, storage, conservator's role, exhibition and project management, etc. This trip will not focus as much on paper conservation as most students attending will be from other disciplines. First year paper students will get their chance next year with Sophie.
12th June - Public Records Office
This visit will be to give a different take on conservation as we have a look at private practice and the difference in conservation concerns and setting from large collection institutes. We will talk to conservators from all disciplines and observe their working environment and setting. The second part of the private practice workshop may take place here as we discuss ideas of advertising, client liasion, etc.
SC@M will be hosting afternoon tea for the first year students after they complete their paper making class on Tuesday 13th March. Looking forward to meeting you all and introducing you to SC@M.
Committee Meeting 5th October, 10am Room 210, Old Arts Bldg
SC@M Meetings (all members and interested persons welcome!)
August 17, 2011: 10am, in the Graduate Students Lounge, Old Arts, University of Melbourne.
Dear all, I have asked Pentronella if she can kindly host a photo documentation workshop regarding IR, UV, flash and copystand documentation as I know many are terrified at the thought of documenting anything by themselves (noticed photo docs are always done in packs of 25 people lol). Apparently next thursday's tut is going to be an all morning tut for everyone doing microscopy, therefore the workshop will be held at 2pm on the 18th of August just after the prac with enough time for peeps to have lunch taking place in IR room!
Be there to demystify the workings of so call photographic documentation in the world of conservation!
