We are finally kick starting events for 2012!!! Line up includes (dates are not set in stone yet):
29th May - Publishing and Private Practice
This is a talk presented by Associate Professor Robyn Sloggett. First part will be on the ins and outs of publication: How to publish? Why we publish? and the academic environment of publishing and how it is maintained in institutes by conservators?
The second part of the talk will be on private practice and how to set up a business: the logistics and ways to go about it.
5th June - State Library of Victoria
This is an invaluable visit to one of Victoria's large collection institutes. The trip will focus on the role of conservators and the management of such large collection. Topics include: collection management, storage, conservator's role, exhibition and project management, etc. This trip will not focus as much on paper conservation as most students attending will be from other disciplines. First year paper students will get their chance next year with Sophie.
12th June - Public Records Office
This visit will be to give a different take on conservation as we have a look at private practice and the difference in conservation concerns and setting from large collection institutes. We will talk to conservators from all disciplines and observe their working environment and setting. The second part of the private practice workshop may take place here as we discuss ideas of advertising, client liasion, etc.
