"I have never driven an old car like this. I only passed my test a few weeks ago"

"I have been told that this is the only place along the whole length of this country lane, where it is possible to turn a car round. The trouble is there has been a lot of rain and the grass looks very wet. I am really concerned that I won't be able to make it, especially as the grass is also up hill. I have just felt my wheels start to slip round and round where they can not get enough grip. I have never been stuck; I hope I don't end up stuck in this gateway. I am miles from anywhere"

"The wheels just can not get enough grip. As soon as I back off of the tarmac, they start to spin. I have lost count how many times I have tried to reverse up this bank to turn round. I am just making more and more mud each time I try. In a minute, I am not going to be able to even move forwards, as there is a small incline up to reach the tarmac. I only just managed to get up out of the dip the last time. I have got a bit further back this time, but I can't get any further, I am well and truly stuck"

"I have got myself down in that dip and now I really am stuck. The other wheel is in the bottom of the dip and so this wheel just spins round and round and I can't move. I have tried rocking the car like I was taught, but even that does not seem to help. Oh I wish I had never volunteered to have a drive along this lane. I don't like being stuck"

"Now I am starting to get leg ache, where my left leg has been continually moving up and down on the clutch pedal whilst I try to rock the car to help it get some grip. The seat is quite a way back and I can only just press the clutch right down if I really stretch out my leg"

"I am really stuck now. If only I could get past this really muddy bit. It does not look too bad behind me, not so muddy, but I just can't reach it. It feels like my wheel is making another rut. I hope I will be able to go forwards if I need to in a minute"
