Auburn Poet Laureate
SWP member Dick Brugger was appointed to be the City of Auburn's first Poet Laureate in January 2012. The City of Auburn deserves much of the credit for this as well as Dick who just happened to be the ideal candidate.

Pacific Poet Laureate
SWP boasts having two Poet Laureates within our ranks. Gerald A. McBreen (our resident romance poet) became Poet Laureate of the City of Pacific in 2009.

Poets on the Meditation Trail
and
The Poetry/Collage Workshop

This event usually happens in July, and one evolved into the other. It started out (with the help of SWP member Jim Teeters) as a nature writing exercise and an excuse to walk the recently completed Dave Kirkland Memorial Meditation Trail behind the East Hill Friends Church in Kent. But one year the forecast called for rain, so we played inside instead. The collage workshop is an attempt to at combing visual arts with poetry.

The Poets Laureate Reading
In April of 2012 we were able to hold a free poetry reading in the Auburn Avenue Theater featuring Auburn Poet Laureate Dick Brugger, and Washington State Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken. It was an honor to be able provide a venue for Kathleen, and the hometown crowd enjoyed Dick's poems too. This event came about as a collaboration between the Northwest Renaissance and Striped Water Poets with the support of the city of Auburn and King County 4 Culture.

Contrary Impulses: a poetry writing workshop
Jim Bertolino is an excellent poet and teacher. In April 2012 we were able to invite him to the White River Valley Museum in Auburn to present a free writing workshop. This event too came about as a collaboration between the Northwest Renaissance and Striped Water Poets with the support of the city of Auburn and King County 4 Culture.
