Fellowship Dinner

SYM provides access to fellowship meal on Wednesday night for street youth. This is a field trip away from the UT "Drag" to a local denominational church. This is not a "feeding" but rather fellowship with the congregation. The meal is the regular meal the congregation eats together every Wednesday evening before going into small groups for support and discipleship with one another.

Clients meet in the courtyard of University Presbyterian Church at 4:30. Volunteer drivers transport them to Covenant Presbyterian Church, which is located at 2222 & Mopac. The drivers and clients are briefed by missionary Terry Cole prior to leaving at 4:45. The group caravans to the church and are greeted by a regular greeter each week to help them get situated on campus. The all you can eat dinner begins at 5:00. Congregation members welcome and sit with the clients at table, where warm conversation develops. Clients are invited into small groups at 6:30. Terry hosts one small group but clients are able to join several small groups led by others as well. Volunteer drivers depart with the clients at 7:30 and return them to University Presbyterian Church.

Clients may leave early by bus, and there are two nearby bus lines: #19 and  #320 with transfer to #1.

The meal cost is $5.00 per person but this is paid for young clients by SYM.

Weekly drivers, greeters, and helpers are needed and can sign-up using our CareCalendar. Donations to cover ongoing costs meals and supplies are needed. You can donate online. We also made available socks and dog food during our fellowship dinner. These can be dropped off at any of our sites.

This is a new style of activity which SYM calls in-reach. The church members and clients have been intentionally prepared with loving boundaries to assure successful events each week. This in-reach is a transferrable asset. Terry can coach your church to do this successfully, too. Contact us to discuss interests.,
