Thanksgiving Prayers

We thank you, Father, for the gift of Jesus your Son who came to our earth and lived in a simple home.
We have a greater appreciation of the value and dignity of the human family because he loved and was loved within its shelter.
Bless us this day; may we grow in love for each other in our family and so give thanks to you
who are the maker of all human families and our abiding peace.

 From The Catholic Prayer Book, compiled by Msgr. Michael Buckley

Thank you, Father, for having created us and given us to each other in the human family.
Thank you for being with us in all our joys and sorrows, for your comfort in our sadness, your companionship in our loneliness.
Thank you for yesterday, today, tomorrow and for the whole of our lives.
Thank you for friends, for health and for grace. May we live this and every day conscious of all that has been given to us.

 From The Catholic Prayer Book, compiled by Msgr. Michael Buckley.

O Gracious God, we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us.
Thank you for the blessings of the food we eat and especially for this feast today.
Thank you for our home and family and friends, especially for the presence of those gathered here.
Thank you for our health, our work and our play.
Please send help to those who are hungry, alone, sick and suffering war and violence.
Open our hearts to your love.
We ask your blessing through Christ your son.

O God, source and giver of all things,
You manifest your infinite majesty, power and goodness
In the earth about us:
We give you honor and glory.
For the sun and the rain,
For the manifold fruits of our fields:
For the increase of our herds and flocks,
We thank you.
For the enrichment of our souls with divine grace,
We are grateful.

Supreme Lord of the harvest,
Graciously accept us and the fruits of our toil,
In union with Jesus, your Son,
As atonement for our sins,
For the growth of your Church,
For peace and love in our homes,
And for salvation for all.
We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, we thank you for this earth, our home;
For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

This Thanksgiving let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord.
At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve on another and to walk together in God's gracious world.
With thankful hearts we praise our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.

Morning Offering to the Sacred Heart

            O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart,

in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,

in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all our associates,

and in particular for the intentions of our Holy Father for this month.  Amen.

Grace Before Meals

(#1)     Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts, which we are about to receive from your bounty.

Through Christ our Lord.   Amen.

 (#2)    Father of us all, this meal is a sign of your love for us: Bless us and bless our food,

and help us to give you glory each day, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Grace After Meals

(#1)     We give thanks for all your benefits, almighty God, who lives and reigns forever.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.   Amen.

 ( # 2)  Loving Father, we praise you for all the gifts you give us:

for life and health, for faith and love, and for this meal we have shared together.

Father, we thank you through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer for Our Family

            Heavenly Father, we are reminded by the Second Vatican Council

that our family is a domestic Church where family prayer and mutual affection pay you special worship.

Help us to be a family of love, support, forgiveness and courage.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

The Angelus

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary,

R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.                          Hail Mary, ...

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R. Be it done unto me according to Your Word.             Hail Mary, ...

V. And the Word was made flesh,

R. And dwelt among us.                                                     Hail Mary, ...

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

            Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts;

that as we have known the incarnation of Christ, your Son by the message of an angel,

so by his passion and cross we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection.

Through the same Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

The Divine Praises

Blessed be God.

Blessed be His Holy Name.

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.

Blessed be the name of Jesus.

Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart.

Blessed be His Most Precious Blood.

Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the paraclete.

Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.

Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.

Blessed be her glorious Assumption.

Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.

Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse.

Blessed be God in His angels and in His Saints.

            May the heart of Jesus, in the Most Blessed Sacrament,

be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection, at every moment,

in all the tabernacles of the world, even to the end of time.  Amen.

Prayer for Peace

            Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed,

kindle in the hearts of all the true love of peace,

and guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who make decisions for the nations of the earth;

that in tranquility your kingdom may go forward, till the earth be filled with the knowledge of your love;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola

            Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous; teach me to serve you as you deserve;

to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds,

to toil and not to seek for rest, to labour and not to ask for reward,

save that of knowing that I am doing your will.  Amen

Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace

(Prayer of Saint Francis)

            Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

            O, Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

Prayer for Expectant Mothers

            All loving God, you created the human family as a reflection of your own divine life so that your creation might share in your happiness.

            Hear our prayer for your daughter who awaits the birth of her child.  She has cooperated with you in giving life.  Assist her now as she prepares to give birth to the child in her womb.  May Mary be her guide and support, calming her fears and strengthening her love.

            May your daughter be filled with your peace and blessing so that she may bring her child into this world safely and in good health to the praise and glory of your name.  We ask this through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

For the Birthday of a Family Member

            Heavenly Father, we praise you for all your gifts to us.

In a special way, we thank you for (name).  Bless (him / her) always in your love.

Bless us too, Holy Father, and this food with which we celebrate.

Help us all to praise you and give you glory through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Three O' Clock Prayer to the Divine Mercy

            You expired, O Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls and an ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world.

            O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty yourself out upon us.

            O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.   Amen.

Act of Faith

            O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because you revealed them,

who can neither deceive nor be deceived.  Amen.

Act of Hope

            O my God, relying on your infinite goodness and promises,

I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your grace,

and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.  Amen.

Act of Love

            O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart and soul,

because you are all good and worthy of all my love.

I love my neighbor as myself for the love of you.

I forgive all who have injured me and I ask pardon of all whom I have injured.  Amen.

Guardian Angel Prayer

            Angel of God, my Guardian Dear,

to whom his love commits me here,

ever this day be at my side,

to light and to guard, to rule and guide.

Family Blessing at Bedtime

In the name of the Father, and the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
