The Ames Public Library will host a free five-part reading and discussion series "Let's Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War" at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Ja.m 23, Feb. 27, March 26, April 23 and May 7 at the library at 515 Douglas Ave., Ames, Iowa.
The library is on of 65 public libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series developed by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Kathleen Hilliard, assistant professor at Iowa State University, will facilitate the discussions. Hilliard is an historian of slavery and the Old South and teaches a course on the Civil War and Reconstruction.
