We saw the Alic 3-D uke at MusikMesse 2014 and knew that, if it sounded anywhere near as good as it looked, it would make a great addition our our product portfolio. Combining ABS-moulded back and sides with a polycarbonate fingerboard and compensated bridge/saddle, rock maple neck, geared tuners and finished off with a eye-boggling 3-D lenticular laminate top, the Alic uke delivers a great sound and looks amazing. Beneath the top 3-D laminate lies a 3-ply laminate of linden (basswood) and okume.
The construction derives its inspiration from a number of sources - the combination of a very thick, rigid back with a thinner top has been used to great effect by Australian luthier Greg Smallman; the use of ABS moulding for the body was first introduced to the mass market by Ovation guitars (the UK's own Pilgrim Guitars use a similar construction). All- and part- polycarbonate ukuleles have been produced for over 50 years. The undisputed current leaders in this field today are Fluke and Flea ukuleles from the Magic Fluke Company in the USA, whose assembly method has also helped inspire the Alic ukulele.
Alic ukes are fitted with Aquila Nylgut strings (2015 models will feature Super Nylgut)
