A project to restore a 1900 landmark in Bottineau, ND
See it condemned or work to save it?

Stone Bank in Bottineau, ND
We chose restoration!

Bottineau County Bank -- founded in 1887 -- was the county's first bank. This Richardsonian Romanesque structure was built with hand-hewn local stone in 1900. The bank folded in 1923, but this charming building lives on.

NEWS UPDATE

March 16, 2013 -- Connie Gorder just dedicated six $100 stones during our "Dedicate a Stone" fundraiser for the Stone Bank Project, which we're launching today at the Spring Fever Arts, Crafts and Bake Sale in the Bottineau Armory. Now you can dedicate a stone in honor of a loved one -- or yourself. Click here or on the image above to see the handsome certificate you'll receive and to make your donation online, or come visit us today at the craft sale. Donation levels range from $500 for a keystone to $25 to be part of the mortar that holds this project together!

Jan. 2, 2013 -- Stone mason Joe Whetter has erected scaffolding and resumed removing and storing the stone from the sagging back quarter of the building. He is taking down the last remaining wall in back, on the north side. In the spring, Joe and our contractor, Fred Kainz, will be ready to rebuild the back 20 feet by installing a sturdy foundation, an interior wall of concrete block and refacing it with the original stones. But first we need you to help us raise some more funding and save this landmark once and for all.

Thanks to many contributions last year from near and far (listed here), we have essentially matched our $20,000 grant from the State Historical Society of North Dakota and our $5,000 grant from Preservation North Dakota. But we'll still need to raise another $25,000 to finish rebuilding the back quarter and extending our new roof over it. Please help us by using the Razoo or PayPal to make a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
