Prospective Families

Dear Prospective Family,

Welcome to St. Monica-St. Michael (SMSM) School. Please enjoy our website. We are very proud of our Catholic School that offers a solid core curriculum with other special content classes to enrich each student’s learning experience.

The school’s name represents a merger of two Catholic schools located in Central Vermont for over 100 years. Our Pre-K -Grade 8 school is open to students of all faiths who enjoy learning in a respectful environment that strives to meet each child’s cognitive, social, emotional needs and teaches moral values. We believe and teach that God gave unique abilities to each of us and that we are to develop these skills to become the best person we can. We know that we are never alone in life as God is always with us and that Jesus’s example can help to guide our choices. St. Monica Church is part of our campus and our students participate in weekly mass and other church related events.

Our solid core curriculum follows Vermont and National expectations in English Language Arts (ELA), Math and Science. Religion and Social Studies are also core subjects at SMSM. All of our students, including Pre-K, receive instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education and Spanish. Pre-K through Grade 3 have Library classes. Grades 1-8 have Technology instruction in our computer lab, including keyboarding and safe internet use. All students in Grades 4-8 are assigned a Chromebook for school use. During Covid-19 our students, K-8, were able to sign out a chrome book for distance learning. Grades 4-8 learn to play an instrument of their choice and participate in Band and Chorus.

SMSM offers a middle school cross-country team and basketball through the OWLS. Many of our students play hockey, soccer, field hockey, baseball and softball on community teams. Our winter activities program offers six weeks of winter sports.

Tours of the SMSM facility and student shadow days for prospective students in K-Grade 8 are available upon request. Please call the school to arrange a visit or to speak with me concerning enrollment or other questions.

May God Bless,

Brenda S. Buzzell, Principal
