- Fr. Shaun Lowery OSFS-
I am very happy to be assigned to your parish. I want you to know that I do not plan on changing anything right away. I see this coming year as a chance for you to get to know me, and for me to get to know all of you, your wants and your needs. I want to hear from all of you.
I would like to start out by sharing a little bit about myself. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and my parents moved to the Detroit area (Downriver) not long after my younger brother was born. I went to
St. Cyril of Jerusalem grade school in Taylor and Cabrini High School in Allen Park. After high school I attended my first year of college at Eastern Michigan University and transferred to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit to complete my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Philosophy. I attended graduate school at the University of St. Michael’s College, a Catholic liberal arts school in the University of Toronto and completed my Master of Divinity.
I taught Theology and English as a high school teacher for three years. My first two years were at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan which closed in 2005; and then one year at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo. I also worked for many years both as a volunteer and as a summer intern at Crossroads of Michigan in Detroit which is an inter-faith social service ministry that has existed for about 40 years and was founded by the Episcopalian Cathedral parish in Detroit.
I made my first profession of vows as an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales on June 25, 2005 together with Fr. Mike Newman who is my Oblate “classmate,” meaning we’ve pretty much done everything “Oblate” together. I met the Oblates while I was a freshman at Eastern Michigan University when we still served at Holy Trinity Student Parish in Ypsilanti. I was ordained a priest on June 27, 2009. My assignment as a deacon and then as a priest was at Gesu Parish in Toledo.
My father lives in Trenton with my uncle living in Woodhaven, and brother in Wyandotte. My mother’s side of the family lives all over the metro- Detroit area and my father’s side of the family is mainly in the St. Louis, Missouri area. My mother died in 1995 from complications caused by Multiple Sclerosis.
Please pray for me as I start this new ministry with and for you and I will pray for all of you. I am looking forward to getting to know you. Please be patient as I try to learn your names.
Peace,
Fr. Shaun, OSFS
