About Active Body Smart Brain Camp

This summer we are trying something new. We understand that parents don’t want only a safe place for their kids while they work but also to ensure their kids are active and learning during this off-school period. That is why, we’ve formed partnerships with teachers, artists, and college students volunteers to deliver a unique summer program where real and fun learning happens, while kids are exposed to martial arts, math, science, reading, arts & crafts, and games. The field trips are designed to explore the wilderness and allow kids to damp of the heat with pool time. Let’s not forget the popular pizza & movie time on Fridays!

The program is designed with children and parents in mind. It is customizable, affordable, yet engaging, and flexible with before and after care available. See the tentative schedule and prices page for more details.

 Smart Brain

This portion of the camp is brought to you by a partnership between STEM and arts teachers and college students volunteers. The Math section of it is created according to famous Stanford and Oxford professor Jo Boaler’s book “Mathematical Mindsets”, where kids are engaged in inspiring math tasks focused on fostering critical thinking, number sense, and creative skills. This is math that your kid will NOT experience in a typical classroom.

The Science section of it is managed by Dr. Bumbu, a science and math teacher who won the SLPS Teacher of the Year in 2016-2017 school year. She blends fun experiments with actual conceptual understanding of particle behavior.

The Arts & Crafts section is designed by artists Mrs. Dana Wu (our music teacher), Michele Jianokopolos and Daniela Mocanu (musician, painter, ceramics, clay, and landscaping specialists), and Dr. Bumbu.
