"Nineteen centuries ago, twelve men changed the world; they were not merely men, but they were priests.
Now, once more twelve priests could change the world … but they must be holy."

I asked him to give me some souls I might form for him ...
Jesus said: ‘I will give you the souls of priests.’

Venerable Louise Margaret Claret de la Touche was a cloistered Visitation nun in France and Italy during the late 1800's and early 1900's. Throughout her life Our Lord spoke to her and guided her soul. She wrote, "... my role here below is to publish the good news ... that all men have need to learn: It is that God is Love, and that consequently, He loves His creature." Jesus wished to strengthen priests in the love of their sublime vocation and unite them with each other and the "Eternal High Priest." So He instructed that she write the book, The Sacred Heart and the Priesthood.

Since 2002, an Annual World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests has been observed on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, as designated by Pope Saint John Paul IIThe faithful are asked to offer special spiritual support for our dear shepherds on this most sublime solemnity. This year, this joint celebration falls on Friday, June 27th, 2014.

This Sacred Heart Evening of Prayer for Priests is sponsored by Apostolate of Spiritual Motherhood for the Sanctification of Priests, under the Office of Vocations of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. This apostolate was inspired by the Congregation for the Clergy's 2007 booklet, "Eucharistic Adoration for the Sanctification of Priests and Spiritual Maternity."
