The Advisory Committee on the Time Zone for St. Joseph County exists to assist prospective proponents of Central Time for the region surrounding and including St. Joseph County, Indiana. We are in the process of preparing position papers to be posted here including primers on time law, Congressional standard time policy, and the methodology employed by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) in time line location proceedings.
The Advisory Committee believes that the economic logic for moving St. Joseph County to Central Time is strong, perhaps even compelling. The troubled history of time observance in Indiana has however pushed the United States DOT into political rather than substantive responses to time zone petitions originating from Indiana. This has worked to the detriment of this county. Accordingly contributions to this site will be directed to educating the public and government of the unique circumstances of the county which distinguish the county from downstate Indiana.
