Youth Ministry Two youth and three adults attended the ELCA Youth Gathering July 2015 in Detroit. The 2018 Gathering was held in Houston, Texas. Our Youth help support the Bethany Center Food pantry with a Souper Bowl lunch in February and shopping for food items. Our youth also like to go Angel Tree Shopping to purchase items for the Salvation Army Christmas project. Amazing Grace Day Camp was held at St John's in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with three counselors from Lutheran Outdoor Ministries. ![]() Community Outreach During the year various collections are taken to support our community. During Lent soup suppers were held along with a quarter collection and the proceeds donated to the Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County. In previous years proceeds were donated to the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development, Upper Valley Career Center GRADS Program, Munch Bunch Ministry, the Salvation Army Summer Feeding program and Eagle's Wings stables. Bethany Center - We are a supporting congregation and have individuals who help regularly at the center and contribute to the community through the center. We provide extra food in February with our Souper Bowl event and staff the food pantry. . Rummage Sales Are usually held in the spring and fall. Due to COVID-19 there were no sales in 2020 and currently none are scheduled. . Reformation 500 in 2017 October 31, 1517 Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses on the door of the church in Wittenberg, Germany. During 2017 several events were held to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Missionary St John's has been supporting missionaries since the 1970's Currently we support David and Alicia Brondos who serve in Mexico City. | Women's Ministry All women are invited to participate in our Women's ministry. Hope Circle normally meets from September through June for Bible Study plus opportunities to meet for other activities - a summer gathering where personal care kits were assembled for Lutheran World Relief. Thankoffering service and various other activities. The women of St John's have been meeting together since they organized in 1898. Celebrated 125 Years in 2015 St John's was founded in 1890. A new Church pictorial directory was published in January. In March, Southern Ohio Synod Bishop Suzanne D Dillahunt preached and helped the congregation begin it's celebration. April 3, St John's hosted the Piqua Community Good Friday Service. In June, the congregation hosted Amazing Grace Day Camp for the community. Christmas in July was held July 25-26 with a display of crèches and Christmas music. We also celebrated the 100th anniversary of our church pipe organ at this time. A German Heritage Lunch was hosted October 25 and the Women of the Church shared a skit November 15 of their "Early Years". . Church Library Over 1100 resources including books, videos, CD's and more are available for children, youth and adults. Cub Scout Pack # 76 & BSA Scout Troop # 76 Currently Cub Scouts meet at St John's on Tuesdays at 7 pm during the school year. BSA Scouts meet Thursdays at 7 pm year round. .
