Walking Group: North Down Coastal Path – Orlock to Bangor

After a few days of brilliant sunshine our walking group headed to the seaside on Saturday (29th June). We went for a dander around that coastal path from Orlock to Bangor, about 6½ miles or 10km in total. This was a change to the schedule, allowing us a later start than usual – the trip to Binevenagh will now be at the end of September.

Unfortunately the sunshine didn’t hold and we had grey skies instead and a few brief showers are lightning flashed over the sea and thunder rumbled around us. As we walked on the weather picked up but we were home for a while before the blue skies appeared again. This was a lovely walk, with sea views at every step and a range of history along the way with a variety of flora and fauna.

Our next two outings are midweek walks; a riverside walk in Downpatrick this Wednesday (3rd July) and a stroll through Lackan Bog on Wednesday 17th

The next bus trips will be on Saturday 27th July when we go to Fairhead (next stop Rathlin) and on Saturday 3rd August when we go to Cuilcagh in County Fermanagh to climb the “Stairway to Heaven”. Booking is essential for these and other bus trips – please contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or if you are interested in coming along.
