Walking Group: Loughshannagh

Our walking group have travelled up the Banns Road to Loughshannagh before but have had to manoeuvre around the puddles each time they did so. That wasn’t the case on Saturday (7th July) as the drought and hosepipe ban continued. When we got to the lake we were glad to take a break and to take in the views, and even to cool our feet.

We carried on past the lake, noting that the water level was down and there was no flow out of the lake. That made the stream crossing all the easier. We then climbed up to reach the Mourne Wall between Carn Mountain and Slieve Loughshannagh, from where we got great views back down over the lake, with the Silent Valley and Slieve Binnian beyond. We could even see the Wicklow Mountains.

We made our way down to car park and back to Meelmore Lodge for our second round of refreshments.

Our next walk after that will on Wednesday 18th July when we go to Lackan Bog and/or Hunshigo Lake (towards Ballyroney) leaving St John’s at 7.00am.
