Walking Group: Cuilcagh

Our walking group usually climb or scramble their way up mountains, but on Saturday (3rd August) we took the stairs - “Stairway to Heaven” in Cuilcagh Mountain Park in Fermanagh. This had been on the “To Do” list for a long while so a wee bit of drizzle wasn’t going to put us off. Unfortunately this meant that there was low cloud encroaching at the top of the stairs restricting the views. This didn’t spoil a lovely walk.

On our way back down we were joined by our shadows as the sun began to break through. But still the cloud remained on the top so we didn’t race back up the steps again. The views around did expand though and we could see Lough Macnean to the north-west and Lough Erne with some of its islands appear to the east, apparently above the horizon.

Our next bus trip will be on Saturday 7th September when we set sail for the Ards Peninsula for a coastal walk and a visit to Echlinville Gin Distillery. We will be leaving St John’s at 9.00am. Booking is essential for these and other bus trips – please contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or if you are interested in coming along.

In the meantime we have a few midweek walks. Our next midweek outing will be a stroll along the coastal path at Bloody Bridge (between Newcastle and Annalong) on TUESDAY 6th August, starting at 7.20pm from the car park at Bloody Bridge.
