Spring / Summer Schedule out soon.

Walking Group: Black Mountain, Belfast

Our walking group went north on Saturday morning (17th February) to explore Black Mountain in the Belfast Hills. The forecast was for clear blue skies and we could see those as we made our approach; unfortunately there was a layer of mist at the top of the hills below the blue.

So it was cold and damp as we started off into the gloom but the mist slowly cleared to give us first glimpses over Belfast and then a great view over Belfast Lough from Kilroot power station round to Stormont. By the time we made it to the coffee shop there was nothing but blue skies.

We had terrific views to the Mournes and Slieve Croob with our scones and carrot cake. Had the Johnnies been playing at home I’m sure we would have been able to read the scoreboard.

Our next outing will on Saturday 24th February we will be on the trail of Giants, with a walk along the rugged North Antrim Coast from Dunseverick Castle to the Giants Causeway. This spectacular walk is fairly flat although there is a steep downhill towards the end to the Causeway stones (this can be skipped) and a climb back up to the Causeway Hotel for lunch at the very end.

After lunch we will board the bus for the short trip to Bushmills for Distillery Tour. That will be an 8.00am start and we should be back at the club around 7.00pm. The cost is £10 for bus and £8 for distillery tour.

Although this trip is being run by the walking group they are open to everyone, including those who wish to skip the walking part and just have a nosey around this spectacular part of the country.

Booking essential – contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or kevin.mcglynn62@gmail.com before Tuesday 20th February so that I can get numbers for the bus (and distillery tour).

Coming Soon – watch out for our Spring / Summer Walks Schedule.
