Walking Group: Tollymore to Meelmore

Our walking group had its first outing of the year with a dander from Tollymore Forest Park to Meelmore Lodge on Saturday (6th Jan). We were joined by some new faces – reflecting New Years’ resolutions perhaps! We were going to be good to ourselves for day one anyhow – no big hills and a coffee shop at the end of the trail. It turned out to be a beautiful morning for walking, albeit a cold one. The main difficulty was avoiding the crowds assembled for the “Born to Run” race through the forest park.

We achieved that and continued to enjoy the peace and quiet along the Ulster Way and Trassey Trail towards. The only sound was that of the kettle calling us to Meelmore Lodge.

Our next outing will on Saturday 20th January when we are going to Dublin. The bus will leave St John’s at 8.00am. We will walk through Phoenix Park, alongside the Liffey to St James’ Gate and to the Guinness Storehouse for further exploration and investigation. We will be leaving Dublin by 5.00pm.

Although this is being run by the walking group the trip is open to everyone, including those who wish to skip the walking part and just have a nosey around Dublin.

Booking essential – contact Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804 or kevin.mcglynn62@gmail.com before Tuesday 16th January so that I can get number for the bus and book group rate to the Guinness Storehouse.

Cost £10 for bus & Storehouse entry charge.
