St. John's GAC notes - W/C 24 July 2017

Everyone in the club would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to our U-12 player Conor McMullan and his family following a serious accident on Saturday. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery!

Congratulations to our ladies senior team who beat Loughinisland last Thursday and were presented with the league cup! #1D1TG

Walking Group: Lackan Bog & Hare’s Gap

Our walking group had a busy week with two very contrasting walks last week. On Wednesday (19th July) we went to Lackan Bog and on Saturday (22nd) we went to the Hare’s Gap in the Mournes. One was flat, the other involved some climbing, on was bathed in sunlight, the other was drenched in … well just drenched.

Actually it didn’t pour all the time at Lackan Bog, but when it wasn’t raining the trees were dripping – no wonder it’s a bog! If you don’t like the weather – wait a couple of days. The sun shone brightly from a blue sky on Saturday when we went up to the Mourne and a little way along the Brandy Pad.

Our next outings are at the start of August, with another busy week. On Saturday 5th we’re going to Blue Lough and on Saturday 12th we are going to Loughshannagh. For both walks in the Mournes we will be leaving the club at 9.30am. In between times we are listed for a walk in Castlewellan Forest Park on Wednesday 9th, leaving the club at 7.00pm, but we might give Lackan Bog another chance if the forecast is better.
