Prayer Quilt Ministry

The Saint James United Methodist Church Prayer Quilt Ministry meets in the Conference Room

The 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each Month - 9:00am to 12:00pm

Prayer is a powerful tool that God has provided for us. But can you touch a prayer? Can you pull it close and feel its warmth and comfort? You can answer these questions with a definite “yes” if it is part of a Prayer Quilt!

The Prayer Quilt Ministry is a way to combine the gift of a quilt with the gift of prayer for someone in need. The purpose of the Prayer Quilt Ministry is not to make and distribute quilts, but to promote prayer through the use of quilts. The quilt is simply the prayer carrier. This is not just a gift of a quilt - it is a gift of love and prayer. It is a statement of faith in God and in His power to comfort, strengthen, and heal. As a special gift of love, the quilts can be made for anyone facing health related problems or a personal crisis.

We make every attempt to create a quilt that relates to the recipient be it their special color, their favorite Bible verse, fabrics that represent their love for music, or their hobbies, whatever can bring the most comfort to the individual.  During the quilt making process we may reminisce or share stories of this person, talk about their good deeds, take photos of our progress and also create a little memory book to go along with their quilt.

How can You get involved? We can always use volunteers. God can bless so many people through this ministry. If you think God is calling you to be part of this ministry, we would love to have you. You do not need to be experienced in quilting. Just drop in on the second or fourth Saturday of the month from 9:00 - Noon and we’ll tell you how you can help.
