Finding our new Vicar:
How far have we got?

We are making steady progress. As you may be aware, this is the not the same as a 'normal' job advertisement. The Diocese controls an age-old process with many stages, with the Bishop of Dorchester playing a central role.

After 19 September 2018, the first official day of our vacancy, we met with the Diocesan support team to guide us through the process. We are delighted to inform you that the Bishop was quick to agree to our planned timeframe for advertising the vacancy, shortlisting the potential candidates and holding interviews.

On 7 January 2019 we held the initial joint PCC meeting with Chalgrove required by the legal process - the 'Section 11 meeting' - which, amongst other requirements, formally requested a meeting with our Patron and the Bishop to agree the next stages of the advertising and interview process. This 'Section 12 meeting' will now be taking place on 28 January 2019, and a final timetable will be prepared as an outcome.

There are currently more parish vacancies than vicars seeking placements - so we are working hard with the PCC of St Mary's Chalgrove to put together our 'Benefice Profile' - a document that explains what an attractive part of the world we are to live and work in. It also describes some of the attributes we are looking for in our new incumbent.

If all goes well, we are planning to be interviewing candidates in the spring. Following this, of course, the chosen candidate will be asked to work through the notice period in their current position while they arrange their relocation to our Benefice.

We will of course keep you updated as we make progress!
