Tuesday 29th August                                  A Walk from Pitstone Hill 

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 9.30am or join Malcolm and Margaret at the car park at the top of Pitstone Hill south of Ivinghoe on road to Aldbury (OS map reference 955148) – for a walk start 10.15am. Walk length just over 4 miles of gentle undulations. Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome. Optional Pub lunch venue to be confirmed but probably Travellers Rest, Edlesborough (post code LU6 2EE).

Wednesday 6th September                      Chequers

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 9.30am to drive to the Russell Arms, Butler’s Cross (post code HP17 0TS).  Thelma and George will meet you there at 10.15am.  If driving through Wendover the pub is on your immediate right at Butler’s Cross crossroads. This walk skirts Chequers Estate, with a steady climb at the beginning past Ellesborough Church. There aren’t any stiles (unlike our last ramble).  Well-behaved dogs are welcome but on leads if any livestock and on roads. Distance approx. 5 miles.  Optional lunch at The Russell Arms.

Tuesday 12th September                         CHARITY WALK for the Florence Nightingale Hospice - Stewkley Figure-of-Eight

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 11am for 11.15am start to walk the countryside around Stewkley starting at Chapel Square, through Bury Farm and across the fields before returning to High St North where we then start the second loop across the Cross Bucks Way to Foxhole Spinney returning via the nature reserve to the High St through Ivy Lane where we head back to the Swan for an optional lunch. Walkers are welcome to do just the first loop. Walk 2.5 miles. Sorry, no dogs. Walkers are asked to make a donation to the Florence Nightingale Hospice.

We welcome anyone who can, to join us on the day and help to raise money for this worthwhile cause which helps so many people locally.

Thursday 21st September                           Bow Brickhill

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 9.15am to order lunch and then set off to Bow Brickhill.   In the middle of the village, where the road bears to the left, take the turning on the right signposted 'Church Road only'.  The lay-by and war memorial is immediately on the left.  Park here for a 9.45am start.  There will be the opportunity to phone through lunch orders for those who want to go directly to the start.  The walk takes in woodland, Woburn Golf Club, Aspley Heath and Bow Brickhill Park. Distance approx. 4 miles.  Sorry no dogs.  Lunch at the Swan, Stewkley.

Wednesday 27th September                     Woburn Wander – the green walk

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 10am for lifts to the public carpark In Woburn (post code MK17 9PX) where we will start the walk at 10.30am.  We head out of the village towards Maryland turning down Timber Lane to walk through fields past the derelict Horsemoor Farm, then up into woodlands before continuing down past Fullers Earth Lodge into Apsley Guise Woods.  We skirt these and then return to Woburn through open fields once more.  Walk 4 miles, no stiles but some uphill walking.   Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.  Optional lunch at the Bell.

Tuesday 3rd October                      Marsworth to Great Seabrook Circular Walk

Meet at the Swan at 10am and drive to the Red Lion at Marsworth (post code HP23 4LU) for a 10.30am start.  The route of the walk is via village roads in Marsworth and crossing the B489 onto the towpath of the canal.  We follow the towpath to Great Seabrook near Cheddington, where we turn left and return to Marsworth by the disused Marsworth Airfield and fields to the Red Lion.  Optional lunch at the Red Lion – pre-booking is essential and orders will be taken before the start of the walk.  The walk is 4 miles in length.  Sorry no dogs.

Thursday 12th October                            Dunstable Downs

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 9.15am for lifts to The NT Chiltern Gateway Centre, Dunstable Downs (post code LU6 2GY).Pat and Shoonagh will meet everybody here. The walk will start 9:45/10am. This is a circular walk via The Five Knolls, Drovers Way, Totternhoe, London Gliding Club and back up to the Dunstable Downs. Light lunches and snacks available at The Gateway Centre. There is a charge for parking - NT members free. Approx 6 miles. Sorry no dogs.

Wednesday 18th October                          Social Evening

Guest speakers, Peter and Diana Gulland will be answering questions on their ‘Reminiscences of 50 years of footpath maintenance and promotion’ – chaired by Neil Shefferd.

 

Saturday 21st October                               Little Gaddesden-Ashridge

Meet at the Swan, Stewkley at 9.45am for lifts to the Bridgewater Arms, Little Gaddesden, Berkhamsted (post code HP4 1PD) for a 10.30am start. The walk is 4 miles long and will take us past the church in Little Gaddesden, continuing to Hudnall Common and Golden Valley at Ashridge.  Optional lunch at the Bridgewater Arms.
