Local athletes at the 2017 Worlds 

 
Oregon will be well-represented in London

Here is a look at athletes who live and train in Oregon, grew up in Oregon or Southwest Washington, went to college in Oregon or some combination thereof, who will be wearing Team USA's red and white blue in individual events at the World Outdoor Championships in London. Matthew Centrowitz, for instance, went to the University of Oregon and trains with the Nike Oregon Project. This slideshow doesn't include foreign athletes who train professionally in Oregon such as Mo Farah (Britain), Sifan Hassan (The Netherlands) of the Oregon Project, Mohammed Ahmed (Canada), Matt Hughes  (Canada) of the Bowerman Track Club, and Francine Niyonsaba (Burundi) of Oregon Track Club Elite. 


Deajah Stevens, 100 and 200 meters

Deajah Stevens, who turned professional this summer with one season of remaining eligibility at the University of Oregon, is a 2016 Olympic finalist in the 200.


Ariana Washington 100 meters

Ariana Washington (left) of the University of Oregon, swept the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100 and 200, and was a 2016 U.S. Olympian. 


Kyree King, 200 meters

Kyree King set the UO school records in the 100 and 200 in his only season as a Duck. The transfer from Western Kentucky was the 2017 male athlete of the year in the Pac-12.

 
Phyllis Francis, 400 meters

Phyllis Francis (left) is a University of Oregon alum and the U.S. indoor record-holder in the 400 meters. She won a 2016 Olympic gold medal as a member of Team USA's 4x400 relay. 


Matthew Centrowtiz, 1,500 meters

Matthew Centrowitz won the 2011 NCAA 1,500 title as an Oregon Ducks, is a two-time medalist at the World Outdoor Championships, and the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500. 

Johnny Gregorek, 1,500 meters
Johnny Gregorek competed for the Oregon Ducks in 2015. He made his first U.S. national team last month by placing third in the USATF Outdoor 1,500 final. 

Eric Jenkins, 5,000 meters

Eric Jenkins (right) won two NCAA indoor titles for the Oregon Ducks. He trains professionally with the Nike Oregon Project. 


Ryan Hill, 5,000 meters

Ryan Hill is the 2015 USATF champion in the 5,000 and silver medalist in the 3,000 at the 2016 World Indoor Championships. He trains with the Bowerman Track Club. 

Shelby Houlihan, 5,000 meters

Shelby Houlihan is a 2016 Olympic finalist. She won this year's USATF Outdoor 5,000, and trains with the Bowerman Track Club. 

Shannon Rowbury, 5,000 meters

Shannon Rowbury (center) is a three-time U.S. Olympian and U.S. record-holder in both the 1,500 and 5,000. She trains with the Nike Oregon Project.

Hassan Mead, 10,000 meters

Hassan Mead is a 2016 Olympic finalist, and won the USATF Outdoor 10,000 last month in Sacramento. He trains with Oregon Track Club Elite. 

Emily Infeld, 10,000 meters

Emily Infeld is a 2016 Olympian and the 2015 World Outdoor Championships bronze medalist in the 10,000. She trains with the Bowerman Track Club. 


Devon Allen, 110-meter Hurdles

Devon Allen was a two-time NCAA and USATF champion while an Oregon Duck. He was a 2016 Olympic finalist. 

Evan Jager, Steeplechase

Evan Jager is a six-time USATF steeplechase champion, the U.S. record-holder and 2016 Olympic silver medalist. He trains with the Bowerman Track Club. 

Courtney Frerichs, Steeplechase

Courtney Frerichs is the 2016 NCAA champion and a 2016 Olympic finalist. She trains with the Bowerman Track Club. 

Colleen Quigley, Steeplechase

Colleen Quigley (center) is the 2015 NCAA champion and a 2016 Olympic finalist in the steeplechase. She trains with the Bowerman Track Club.


Amy Cragg, Marathon

Amy Cragg is the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials marathon champion and placed ninth in the Rio Olympics. She trains as part of the the Bowerman Track Club.


Ryan Crouser, Shot

Ryan Crouser, who prepped at Barlow High School in Gresham, is a four-time NCAA champion. He set the Olympic record while winning 2016 Rio final. 


Kara Winger, Javelin

Kara Winger is a graduate of Skyview High School in Vancouver. She is a three-time Olympian, seven-time U.S. champion and U.S. record-holder. 

Cyrus Hostetler, Javelin

Cyrus Hostetler is a two-time Olympian who has held the University of Oregon School record of 272-10 since 2009. He is a graduate of Newberg High School.

Erin Taylor-Talcott, 50k Racewalk

Erin Taylor-Talcott went to Clackamas High School, and to college at Rutgers and Stony Brook, where she earned a master's degree in music. She is 39.
