Welcome to Steve's Audio Stuff

In 1968 I opened a Hi-Fi shop in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and in 1974 opened a second shop in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I considered myself a Hi-Fi enthusiast who had turned a hobby in to a business and after a slow start, business was good. Then in 1985 business fell flat and that combined with domestic difficulties led me to take the decision to close down. At the time I felt glad to be out of it and my interest in audio lapsed.

Recently it occurred to me that my hi-fi system was getting rather ancient, in particular my 1978 pair of IMF Super Compact II speakers. The foam rubber surrounds on the mid-range drivers had perished and needed replacing, but what with? The original drivers were no longer made so I had to find a substitute. After many hours online Googling for 100mm mid-range drivers I found something suitable but at the same time my interest in audio was rekindled. I soon realised I had a lot of catching up to do.

What follows on these pages is the replacement of the IMF Super Compacts with IPL Acoustics S3TLM transmission line kits, ramblings from my time as a hi-fi retailer and various projects I've recently undertaken.

I support the TurnMeUp! campaign to bring the dynamics back to recorded music.
