The 2013 Student UAS Competition run by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International simulates a team of Navy Seals who are tasked with determining a method of rescuing a family of international diplomats being held hostage. In order to complete their task, they must first locate the victims using point reconnaissance. The team has decided to deploy an unmanned aerial system (UAV) to sweep the area. For the entirety of the mission, the UAV will be in contact with the base team relaying data and surveillance for an immediate response time.
The project objective is to create an unmanned air vehicle that can successfully fly in a designated area while locating targets on the ground of various sizes, shapes, and colors.
