Winter

Can/UKC Ch. Amberwood Winter Wonderland SH WCX CD VCI, Am. CD WCX SH CCA VC

Winter was a once-in-a-lifetime dog.  He was my first Champion, and my first dog to earn hunt test titles.  As an owner handler, we won a JAM at the 2007 GRCC National Specialty, and also won the Field Dog class, and qualified in Novice Obedience, and the WCI test, to win the Nan Gordon Versatility Trophy.  He won the Field Dog class again the next day at the Quebec regional specialty, and in 2010 won it again at the GRCC National held in Stratford.  He was a phenomenal pheasant dog, and a wonderful companion who is terribly missed.  He was diagnosed with lymphoma in early September 2014 and passed two weeks later.  He is deeply missed.

Winter arrived on the Sterre scene at the start of February, 2004. He was born December 15, 2003--thus the winter-themed name. His parents, Jerry (Ch. Chrys-Haefen More for the Mony) and Emma (OTCh. Ch. Chrys-Haefen Amberwood Image Can. WC, AgN/Am. CDX, NA, NAJ), were both GRCC National Specialty winners, so he had big paws to fill . He showed early promise winning a Group 1st, a BPIG, and Group 2nd respectively in his three sanction match appearances.

After he turned six months, Winter was out on a limited basis. In that time he achieved 3 Reserves over Open dogs as a Junior Puppy (Monarch KC, and Owen Sound K&OC), and his first Best Puppy in Breed (Pine Ridge K&OC).

On Sunday November 14, 2004, Winter earned his first championship points with a 5 point Best of Breed win over Special and Open entries from the Sr. Puppy Dog class!! Thank you to judge Allan Pepper for recognizing the potential of this outstanding boy.
Slovenian judge Stefan Sinko gave Winter Winner's Dog, Best of Winners and Best Puppy at the Caledon Kennel Association show on November 26, 2004, for 3 more points. He commented, "A lovely puppy with a beautiful head. Very nice."
Winter then went to the 2005 GRCC National Specialty, where he earned his WC and won the Canadian Bred class under breeder-judge Laurie Doumaux.
Winter finished his Championship going Winners Dog under Swedish judge D. Bodegard at the Guelph KC show on Sunday April 23, 2006.  My sincere thanks to all the friends who came out to support us.
After his Championship, Winter's next achievement was to earn a JAM at the 2007 GRCC National Specialty, and also won the Gun Dog class both days!  He went on to win the Nan Gordon Trophy as he also qualified in Novice A obedience and the WCI test.
Winter turned out to be a pretty talented working dog, and was a phenomenal pheasant hunter.  He went on to earn his CKC WCX and SH, as well as his AKC SH, and GRCA WCX as well.
