Swampscott 18' Surf dory

This is the intended hull for the Gray 3 H.P. gas engine. Swampscott dories have a long history in the Mass. Bay area. They were first used with sails and oars only but with the introduction of the first gas engines near the beginning of the 20th century they were modified for power. I am building this in my back yard in Somerville, MA. Click on image for more pictures

Gray 13R 3-HP ca.1907 gas engine. This is an engine that my late father Albert E. Hickey gave me when I was in college. I started restoring it in college but never got very far. I have been lugging it around from place to place until finally during COVID lock down I finally decide it was time to restore it and get it started.
