Stefan Lachowycz

I am a volcanologist affiliated with the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism of the Carnegie Institution for Science.

My research interests include:

  • Interactions between volcanoes and other natural hazards (e.g. earthquakes) or earth systems (e.g. the cryosphere)
  • Physical volcanology, principally of explosive, glaciovolcanic, and lava dome-forming eruptions
  • Tephrochronology, to constrain volcanic eruption histories/processes and as a tool for Quaternary science
  • The utility of statistical methods in volcanology, particularly in monitoring and forecasting volcanic activity.
