Each year, SDCWC sponsors both partial and full work-study scholarships to our annual writers conference.
Many times, our work-study attendees are assigned to assist in areas such as serving snacks, helping at the book table, or running small errands and filling in where volunteers are needed. This gives our scholarship attendees an opportunity to network with both the faculty and other attendees.
All requests for scholarships MUST be received by April 30.
The Berger-Minshull Scholarship
This is a full scholarship in honor of Eileen Berger and Evelyn Minshull, who both have encouraged writers to polish and submit their work for publication. The scholarship is awarded to a candidate deemed most worthy based upon persistence in the craft and submission processes.
If the candidate has submitted to contests and won prizes, this may also be included. The writing may be prose, poetry, or both. The candidate also should disclose future plans for writing projects: articles, poetry, chapbooks, novels, nonfiction works, etc.
If the candidate is involved in a writers group or volunteers to teach in schools, he or she should also mention this involvement. The scholarship will not be determined solely on the basis of publication. However, the candidate should be actively engaged in writing and sending out work.
Kal Marque Scholarship
This is full scholarship for those who are in the clergy or their spouses or siblings.
If you or your writers' group would like to sponsor a needy conferee or wish to contribute to the scholarship fund, send inquiries and donations to:
