Striking Competition Rules (Guild)
The St. Davids Diocesan Guild Striking Competition Rules
1. The competition is to be held on the 2nd Saturday of May in each year.
2. A team from any tower shall consist of at least 4 regular ringers from that tower.
3. No ringer shall compete in more than two bands competing in the competition. This does not extend to any scratch team, which does not compete for the trophy.
4. Six bells shall be rung.
5. Ringers may ring their bells briefly before the commencement of the test piece in order to familiarise themselves with the bells. Notice to be given to the Adjudicator that this practice time has ended by 3 whole pulls on a single bell.
6. The ringing shall be as follows:
a) 40 rounds i.e. 20 whole pulls and then all bells shall stand.
b) Thereafter shall be rung the test piece of 120 changes or Call Changes and then the bells shall stand.
c) Thereafter 40 rounds i.e. 20 whole pulls shall be rung and then the bells shall stand.
7. The test piece shall be 120 changes of Doubles or Minor or Call Changes. Call Changes shall be achieved in the minimum time of 5 minutes. Each bell except the Tenor shall be called down to lead and any or every change may be repeated.
8. If a team shall elect to ring Call Changes then there shall be in the Belfry, with such Call Change team, an independent adjudicator, who shall be responsible for indicating to the Captain of the team when 5 minutes have passed.
9. The order of the teams competing in the ringing shall be by lot.
10. In any case of doubt or dispute the adjudicator's decision shall be final and binding in all cases.
There is an entry fee of £6 per team to help to defray the adjudicator's expenses.
