“Wings of Spring”

International Migratory Bird Day

In 2010 SCVBC worked with the City of River Falls to earn certification as one of 15 inaugural cities designated a Wisconsin “Bird City". We have proudly continued to achieve this designation each year since, and in 2016 raised the commitment to the highest level, that of “High Flyer” status.

One requirement of a “Bird City" is to host an annual festival to recognize International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD). The River Falls event, called “Wings of Spring”, joins with similar events all over the Americas, in celebrating the return of migratory birds making their annual spring journey north from Latin America and southern North America.

Supported by other community environmental organizations and groups, SCVBC volunteer members use this educational opportunity to encourage an awareness of birds, habitat and conservation. Through displays, demonstrations and presentations, “Wings of Spring” provides a varied program including speakers, informational and hands-on activities, games, bird banding demonstrations and guided hikes.

There is something for everyone, both adult and child, experienced and inexperienced.

The St. Croix Valley Bird Club “Wings of Spring” festival is held the first Saturday in May in River Falls, WI.
